Originally, the family had planned on going up a day later, but with an incoming winter storm, they headed up on the one day that snow was not predicted.

Jess meets the pellet stove, something she had never heard of before and something that proved to be very challenging.
Even with a fire in the fireplace, the house was still freezing. Add to that, Cali kids in shorts, and there was a hustle to figure out how to warm the place up.
Luckily, Taisie knows how to keep a good fire going, and with the exception of the wind making the house quite smoky at times, she kept it going while Jess unsuccessfully fought the pellet stove.
Fingers were crossed that a cozy warmth would be found the next day.
