Due to the hot tub not working, the crew got a late checkout (as in 6 hours later than normal).  Not bad.

Pre-competition, a little holiday spirit by watching the movie Spirited.

Then it was back to Jackbox games to round out the evening.

The patio of the Yucca Valley house felt like it was right in Joshua Tree National Park.

And then it was time for a surprise - the arrival of the Findleys, which Maddie thought, at first, was someone breaking into the house.

Which was very cold, so then it was inside for some gaming.  These iPads were actually used for a game.

That the adults could participate in.

Madd Max Has A Thanksgiving Dinner

Lookit those friends with engagement wine (or at least wine from the place Sam and Jess celebrated being engaged).

The Thanksgiving crew at the Leonhardts - Sam, Marissa, Lilly, Max, Elizabeth, Maddie, Caroline, PJ, Skip, Steve, Alex, Jess and Norma.

And finally dessert - this cranberry pie had a meringue crust.  It was made by Alex, who does not like meringue.

Slappy Does The Thanksgiving Turkey Trot

Which meant out the door at 7am.  Maddie warmed up while Jess prepped her chair and magazines.

The racers and the big blow-up, dancing turkey.

And she's off.

At 32:13, she hit the finish line - 264 out of 972.

Her participation medal.  She made Jess promise that if she sent the photo and her time to anyone, that she was also to make it clear that she was running for fun and not trying to go fast.

Madd Max Volunteer At The Fraternal Order Of Eagles

dooner is one of the order, and he had taken over the job of organizing/prepping the Thanksgiving meal for those in the area in need.  Here he's prepping one of the 40 turkeys for deep frying.

Carving turkeys.  After Sam taught Maddie the ropes, she carved 3 on her own.

Taisie got in on the action by cutting so many onions for stuffing, the making of which was Jess' job.

Then it was time to do some volunteering for the LA County Fed of Labor's food drive.

Where they also got to hang with dooner.
